A fifteen stage BSCAN workflow system was designed and developed, then nearly four million complete tax records were captured from microfiche for the Arizona Department of Revenue. The characters were too difficult to read for standard OCR engines, which do a very poor job reading dot matrix print, which is similar to the print in microfiche images. BSCAN’s special OCR engine and review/correction software produced such high quality data that a mandatory final review revealed only one character error in 500 million!

For high volume needs, Bookeye overhead scanners eliminate the need to de-staple and unbind documents, thus eliminating chances of losing or reordering pages.

Bookeye color planetary scanners are great for scanning laboratory notebooks as Pfizer learned last year. The notebooks used in labs are not allowed to be broken apart and the extra pieces of paper taped and stapled to pages make it difficult sometimes to get a good scan with a flatbed scanner. With a Bookeye and BSCAN, the scan operator can scan a notebook in no time.

For preservation, The new Bookeye 3 color planetary scanner and/or WideTEK Super B color flatbed scanner with Opus provide a complete ten stage paint-by-numbers system for digitizing collections for METS, MODS, Dublin Core and custom output formats. Opus also provides web-ready output of digital collections that can be easily browsed and if desired, a printer-ready digital book can be included for download.
For Interlibrary Loan, Bookeye color overhead scanners with BSCAN-ILL provide the most efficient method of scanning interlibrary loan requests. The WideTEK Super B color flatbed scanners, with a lightening fast scanning speed of 2 seconds for two pages are a close second.
